Twinsies

{rings in Lapis, Leopardskin Jasper, and Coral}

As Mandy mentioned yesterday, we finally went on our first Rose Bowl Flea Market adventure!  It was a bit overwhelming because of the sheer number of vendors and piles of crap there were to sift through, but a fun and fulfilling experience for sure (we both left with some great cheap finds, including the mirrored tray shown in the photo above, and some glassware).  As we were just about to leave, we were both drawn to one particular jewelry stand where we found these gorgeous rings.  They reminded us of the YSL Iconic Arty Oval rings, but these had two smaller stones with lace detailed antique brass, making them a little more delicate and feminine--definitely more "us."  Mandy got the Leopardskin stone (so beautiful and perfect with her Fashion painted nails), and I got the coral which looked great with my Chubby Cheeks nails!  Twinsies!

Vintage Finding

 {Splendid striped cardigan, Gap ankle zip jeans, Foreign Exchange cross-back tank, J.Crew metallic skinny belt, Sperry Top-Sider Boat Shoes in Ice (not shown), Ray-Ban Wayfarer, Peggy Li Two Hearts Necklace, gold dimpled ring, thrifted vintage Coach leather bag}

This past weekend was a very vintage-y one for me.  I have sifted through vintage and thrift stores before, but have never been able to find anything worth taking home.  So when I wandered into Buffalo Exchange at The Lab this past Saturday, I didn't really expect to purchase anything.  Despite my lack of optimism, the shape and color of this Coach pouchette drew me in.  The bag was in really good shape, had a cool pull-button enclosure and was priced at $20!  After a quick consultation with my boyfriend, I pulled the trigger and made my very first vintage/thrift purchase.

It only seemed fitting to debut my new-old purse while perusing antiques at the Rose Bowl Flea Market.  Holly and I have been planning to make a trip out to the flea market for months, but as circumstances had it, one of us was busy on each second Sunday until this past weekend.  Check back tomorrow for Holly's post on some of our flea market finds!

Phases

I seem to go through phases when it comes to jewelry. First earrings, then long necklaces, followed by lots of pearls, then statement necklaces, and recently dainty necklaces. Now I'm moving on to somewhat undescribable necklaces...unusual and partially ethnic but bohemian. I'm not quite sure how to describe my new necklace obsession, but I know it's a passing phase.

Work Appropriately

{Ann Taylor silk blouse, Theory skirt, Nine West Pumps, MJ Stam, J.Crew Necklace}

Trying to achieve and maintain a sense of personal style is not an easy thing for me. I'm constantly influenced by the current trends floating around blogs and magazines, I certainly can't resist buying something I don't absolutely love just because it's such a good deal, and there's no doubt that all marketing tactics are aimed at people like me (that Victoria's Secret model looks amazing in that bikini, so obviously, if I have that bikini, I will look amazing, too!).

Having to follow a business casual dress code for work while trying to steer my way around typical professional wear I don't care for (like stiff cotton collared shirts, old-lady pencil skirts, and boring covered-toe low heels), makes maintaining my own personal style that much more difficult.  My ideal office chic outfit is an ensemble of statement pearls, a silk blouse paired with a unique skirt or fitted pants, and simple black platform pumps.

Royally Inspired

I admit, I woke up in the wee hours of the morning to witness the Royal Wedding, and truly loved every minute of it.  I gasped as the new Duchess of Cambridge stepped out of the car in that gorgeous Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown.  Inspired by that breathtaking dress, I am officially loving all things adorned with lace.  These are some of my current favorites...

Ultimate Burger

{Ultimate Burger, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii}

Jason and I took a quick day trip to Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii to visit friends. We stumbled upon this burger joint in a Kona strip mall which prides itself on using all fresh and locally sourced ingredients. So of course we had to try it, especially since they use fresh Big Island raised beef!

As Jason put it....why don't we have places like this on Oahu?! The burgers were delicious, especially with the fresh bun, and the fries were so addicting and seasoned to perfection!
