Desert Holiday

{El Paseo Shopping District}

Here are a few photos from a weekend getaway with my parents to Palm Springs last month.  While the boyfriend and I felt like we didn't quite meet the age requirement, this city in the middle of the desert is an oasis that took me far away from everyday life, and it's just an hour away.

{Certified Farmer's Market - Palm Springs}

**I would like to say a big thanks to the nice people who run the Certified Farmer's Market for finding and returning the camera I absentmindedly left at this stand while swooning over sweet limes.  Without these kind, honest and genuine people I would not have had these photos to share with you all, Thank You!**

Ad Hoc At Home: Braised Pork Belly

After visiting Ad Hoc in Napa Valley twice and loving the food, I felt it was necessary to purchase the Ad Hoc at Home cookbook. The restaurant menu is prix fix only and the food can be described as homestyle cooking at it's best. It's definitely the type of food Jason and I enjoy cooking and eating!

{the cookbook has amazing pictures...}

{...and includes a lot of background information on the main ingredients being used, as well as very helpful how-to instructions}

After debating between pork belly confit or braised pork belly, I came to the conclusion that I could not stomach the idea of covering already fatty pork belly in lard! So braised pork belly it was!

Don't be fooled by the short list of ingredients this recipe requires! It took a total of two days to make this recipe, because you have to brine the pork belly overnight, then press it for another 8 hours so the connective tissue gels (sounds nasty), then braise it.

Phew, it's done! The finished product, served with Curried Cauliflower and Green Bean Salad with Lemon Yogurt from Food and Wine.

The verdict: Good but probably not worth the effort.

In Season

Since I moved to my new neighborhood a few months ago, Saturday morning farmer's market visits have quickly become a weekly ritual.  Being able to choose different flowers that can be enjoyed all week long is a cheap and easy way to warm up and decorate my new home.  This weekend, the local farmer's market was bursting with buckets of the vibrant and gorgeous Ranunculus flower in all different shades.  At $3.50 a bunch, I wish I bought more!

Ciao Macarons!

I've been quite the macaron addict lately, and after reading the multitude of reviews on yelp, I knew I needed to make a trip out to LA to try Bottega Louie.  It was a gloomy day in So. Cali, but this bustling cafe was filled with excited brunch goers enjoying their meal and deciding which delectable pastries to take home with them.  Everything was absolutely delicious... my faves were the margherita pizza (reminiscent of the slices I've tried in NY... it was that good!) and the chocolate-filled earl gray macarons.  If you're in the area, or 40 miles away, be sure to stop by.

Outfit of the Day: Dinner Date

{zara silk top; 7 for all mankind "the skinny" jeans; bcbg sandals; j.crew necklace; chanel medium/large black caviar flap in silver hardware}

Occasion: Dinner date with Jason at Wolfgang's Steakhouse in Waikiki

My black Chanel flap is a souvenir I purchased while on vacation in Venice, Italy with Jason. Though the bag is a classic item that Chanel always carries, it was surprisingly difficult to find in Italy. I hunted for it in Rome and Florence, and finally stumbled upon it in Venice, the smallest of all cities we visited!

This is one of my favorite statement necklaces. I bought it from J.Crew last year and love the mix of pearls and sparkle combined with the semi-tough-girl looking chain!
