Tasty Thai

 {Tom Yum Gai - hot and sour chicken soup}

I love Thai food.  It is always at the top of my list of suggestions when ordering takeout, but until this weekend I have never attempted to cook it myself.  I was in the mood to try some new recipes, so after a quick Google search, I decided on these recipes for Tom Yum Gai and Pad See Ew, my two favorite Thai dishes.  All the ingredients were easily found at my local 99 Ranch, and I only made a few substitutions (soup: fresh oyster mushrooms in place of button and canned straw mushrooms, noodles: Chinese broccoli in place of normal broccoli and omitted carrots).  The soup turned out amazing and tasted just like the versions I've tried at Thai restaurants, except with an added kick from the serrano chilies.  The noodles were also yummy but the sauce was a tad light (as you can see) for my liking.  Next time, I'll try using dark soy sauce as directed in this recipe.  Overall it was quite a success, these dishes will definitely be added into my regular rotation.

  1. YUMMMM! i LOVE Tom Yum! definitely wanna try this although i don't think B will like it. the last time i made a thai soup he didn't like it much. it was sorta like tom yum but it had coconut flavor to it. hey, did you use kaffir lime leaves? i could NOT, find them at the grocery store!!!!!

    love that you topped off your yummy thai meal with thai tea!

  2. i did use the kaffir lime leaves. i *almost* didn't buy them bc the package had like 50, and i only needed 6... but its a good thing i did. when i opened up the pack it totally reminded me of the aroma of tom yum gai... so i'm pretty sure its an important ingredient for the soup.

  3. Yummy Omgosh Tom yum and pad see ew are like two of my favorite things to order at Thai restaurants! I'm so impressed Mandy if I visit socal I'm so visiting your house for dinner haha

  4. I LOVE thai food! Everything looks so delicious :)

  5. it all looks so delish! jason and i don't eat thai food that often...i don't think i've ever had tom yum and we never order noodles when we eat asian food. heh. did you make the thai iced tea?? i LOVE those! i want to know how to make it!

  6. I didn't know you liked Thai food that much. The only thing I get is massaman curry & then I'll say, "let's get Indian food tonight, I want massaman curry." (As a joke, not b/c I'm stupid.)
